Michael Eklund in Alcatraz, Hart of Dixie returns, new interview with Scott Porter, and new Arctic Air webisode

Hart of Dixie returns tonight at 9 pm on the CW. Zap2it has a new interview with Scott Porter. He talks about football and wanting Tim Tebow to play his brother on the show. Snippet:
On Friday, Jan. 20, between takes at the exterior set for the Rammer Jammer Restaurant on the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank, Calif., Porter laughs when he's asked if it's a cruel irony that his character's girl has her eye on a football player -- mirroring the situation on his earlier show, "Friday Night Lights," in which the fiancee of his character, paralyzed former top high-school quarterback Jason Street, cheated on him with his best friend and former Dillon Panthers teammate, Tim Riggins (Taylor Kitsch).

Blackstone season two premiere, Arctic Air videos, interviews with Leah Gibson, Christopher Heyerdahl, Patton Oswalt and Bear McCreary

A quick round of updates.

Netflix has finally launched in UK and Ireland and both Caprica and Battlestar are available for streaming. If you know people there who haven't seen the shows, you can nag them to do it now, while Netflix is offering a free month of trials.

Blackstone, with Carmen Moore, returns with the season two opener, "Blood Is Thicker Than Water," tonight on APTN in Canada. The episode should air at 9 pm ET on APTN East, West, and HD, and at 8 pm PT, but check your local listings to be sure.

Carmen Moore was also one of the people who made an appearance in Arctic Air yesterday. If you haven't seen the pilot, check it out. There are more BSG people in the first five minutes of that show than there were in the opening scenes of BSG. And they share scenes and everything.

The Vancouver Sun has some pics from the red carpet premiere. Here is a clip from the set that includes a short interview with Leah Gibson and a bunch of scenes from the pilot:

Arctic Air premieres in Canada, new Bomb Girls tonight & new interviews with Meg Tilly

Arctic Air premieres at 9 pm on CBC tonight. A bunch of Caprica and BSG actors are either regulars or recurring guest stars: Carmen Moore, Michael Hogan, Leah Gibson, Kandyse McClure, Brian Markinson and Aleks Paunovic. There might be more of them as the season progresses.

Here is the plotline, from the show's Facebook page:

ARCTIC AIR is a one-hour adventure series set in the booming Arctic, about a maverick airline and the unconventional family who runs it.

On the ground, Bobby, the headstrong business partner, struggles to save the airline from crashing financially while Mel, the cantankerous co-owner, keeps his crew of pilots in the air. Caught in the crossfire is Mel’s hotshot pilot daughter Krista. (...)

Over the season this character-based drama will deliver hard-hitting emotional stories – from the romantic entanglement of Bobby and Krista, to the conflicts that spark between Bobby and his competitors, his business partners and even his extended family. There’s a new gold rush heating up under the permafrost, and there are new fortunes of diamonds and oil to claim.

Cast updates and new interviews with Jane Espenson, Carmen Moore and Scott Porter

A few updates to start the week.

Jamie Bamber guest stars on House tonight (9 pm, Fox, teaser below) and a new episode of Hart of Dixie with Scott Porter also airs at 9 pm, on the CW.

The Boston Herald has a new interview with Scott. He talks about Hart of Dixie, Friday Night Lights and the possibility of returning to The Good Wife. Snippet:
“Blake was the trickiest character I ever played,” he said.

Any chance Blake could return to stir up trouble?

“The (producers) and I have talked about it,” he said. “If Blake does come back, he’s going to come back in a much different capacity. This time, maybe, he’s the one who needs the help. It’s going to be great to see if he can repair those bridges that he burned. Not just burned, but dropped bombs on.”

New interview with Carmen Moore, new projects for Meg Tilly, Ryan Robbins and Mike Dopud & some general updates

Let's start with the writers this time.

Jane Espenson wrote an article about Torchwood for BBC.co.uk that provides some info about the creative process behind Miracle Day. You can read it here.

Mark Verheiden tweets that he is back in the Falling Skies writers' room. Caprica co-creator & new FS showrunner Remi Aubuchon confirms that Verheiden will be on staff for season two as a consulting producer. (Yes, Remi Aubuchon has joined Twitter.)

Race Bending has a fantastic new interview with Carmen Moore. She talks about Blackstone, playing Fidelia in Caprica, how she got cast in Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome (she will likely be a regular if B&C gets picked up) and some of her other projects, both old (Andromeda) and more recent (Two Indians Talking).

You can read the partial transcript here or listen to the whole interview below.

New interviews with Esai Morales and Carmen Moore

Esai Morales talked to Daemon's Movies recently and they have a nice, long interview up on their site today. It's mostly about Gun Hill Road, but he also talks about Caprica and his new projects. A few quotes:

On Gun Hill Road:

How was it watching other people react to such an intimate film?

Esai Morales: Mind blowing. It was really freaky. I was nervous. I didn’t expect the movie to be as good as it turned out to be, to be honest with you. That’s no aspersions to anyone, per se, but it was just such a small, little heartfelt film. Rashaad [Ernesto Green] had never done a feature length film before and you have some concerns. So when I saw the rough cut I was like, ‘Wow. This is not bad.’ Still, I was thinking, ‘Are they going to get it?’ Then when I saw it on a screen and all the nuances that audience picked up on I was blown away.

On Caprica:

I’m very sorry about ‘Caprica’ being cancelled. Do you know what happened there?

Esai Morales: I can’t say exactly what happened. It’s all about numbers. It’s all about the mathematics. I can’t begrudge SyFy. They have a business to run. I’m sad that it happened because it was really helping to re-brand the network like they wanted to, but I don’t think that they had the fiscal patience. When you have a show like ours that was upwards of $2 million an episode and Snooki gets punched in the face and gets eight million people in her first season, you try to compete against that.

On new projects:

Do you have anything else in the works right now?

Esai Morales: Well, we’re looking at pilot season and we have a couple that are very interesting, very nice. There’s still more to come, but I’ve decided to start developing projects. I want to become Tyler Perez–that’s a little joke there, but it’s also important because I think that our market needs to be unified and I want to be the Spike Perry or the Tyler Lee. Obviously, I’d like to make my own name at it, but for now we’re developing three ideas.

One that’s sci-fi which is funny because I had all these people approach me with sci-fi titles that were very cheesy. But that’s what they do. ‘Mansquito’, ‘Sharktapus’. They make those movies for ten cents in Romania or Bulgaria and then they come here and they’ve got fans. The teenagers love that stuff. So we were looking at titles and I heard one that wasn’t rather silly and we’re developing from there. It’s a little bit like backwards engineering. ‘Here’s a little title that we think we can market. Let's build it.’

There are two others. One is more ‘Pineapple Express-ish’, a comedy kind of thing. And I can’t give you the title because it’s so good. I love it. Then one more that’s like a nice date movie for the Latino core audience, but should be good enough – I watch Anglo films and I’m not completely Anglo. Why can’t people from not within our community enjoy movies that deal with us, too?

APTNtv posted the second part of the interview with Carmen Moore from a few weeks ago, about Blackstone. The show airs Tuesdays at 9 pm EST on APTN and Fridays at 11 pm EST on Showcase.

Blackstone premieres in Canada tonight, Hellcats go to sectionals

Blackstone premieres in Canada tonight. The pilot airs at 9 pm on APTN. Showcase will air it on Friday at 11 pm. Carmen Moore stars and Hiro Kanagawa has a job behind the scenes as the story editor. Three clips (two interviews with Carmen Moore and a teaser) are embedded below.

A new episode of Hellcats airs at 9 pm on the CW. IMDB says Magda Apanowicz is in it (doubtful, but not impossible). Kevin Murphy and Jennifer Schuur wrote the ep. Pics and promo at Daemon's TV.

Other things that happened since yesterday:

A new story in the "Caprica: Season 2" series has been posted at Beginning of Line. Check it out: "Vengeance Is Mine, Part 1"

While you're there, you can also read an interview with Jordan Cannady, the author of the Cylon 7 commercial.

The Futon Critic announced that Michael Rymer will direct the pilot for Ron Moore's 17th Precinct. Report:

Michael Rymer ("Battlestar Galactica") has been tapped to direct the Ronald D. Moore-penned pilot, a police drama set in a world "where magic and supernatural elements rule over science." Rymer helmed nearly two dozen "Galactica" episodes as well as the first two parts of the mini-series that launched Moore's revamp. Sony Pictures Television is producing "Precinct."

Yesterday's episode of House with Sasha Roiz (along with the new ep of Lie to Me) scored Fox the best Monday ratings this season. No doubt both Caprica viewers with a Nielsen box tuned in.

And back to Blackstone. The first clip is an interview with Carmen Moore that aired on Urban Rush yesterday. The second interview is from APTNtv. The third one is the teaser for the show.
